Dr. Michael P. Mucker Graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. At UPJ, he was a member of the Pre-Professional Society and Vice-President of the Programming Board, where he was honored with The Programmer of the Year Award and the Presidents’ Incentive Award. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1985 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. At the Pennsylvania College of Optometry he did externship rotations at the pediatric unit of the Eye Institute in Philadelphia, at the Allentown VA Hospital and also at the private practice of Drs. Corbin and Copeland in Wyomissing, PA. These rotations allowed Dr. Mucker to gain valuable experience in pediatric, geriatric, contact lens and primary eye care. Dr. Mucker has been active in the Southwestern Pennsylvania Optometric Society, a branch of the Pennsylvania Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association, serving as vice-president and as president. In 2000 he was named the Society’s Optometrist of the Year “for service to his profession, his community and for his significant contributions to the visual welfare of the public”. He is currently the VCI director for the society. Dr. Mucker has expertise in fitting of all types of contact lenses for astigmatism and lenses for keratoconus. By obtaining a board certification in therapeutic pharmaceuticals, Dr. Mucker is able to detect and to treat diseases of the eyes, such as glaucoma, conjunctivitis, keratitis and iritis, macular degeneration and cataracts. He also had eighteen years of experience in the post-operative care for cataract patients along with extensive experience in pre and post-op care for LASIK refractive surgery. Dr. Mucker’s patients appreciate his thorough and comprehensive eye examinations combined with his caring attitude. He currently serves on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s Alumni Council and is a member of the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Mucker is president and co-founder of the Laurel Highlands Off-road Bicycling Association, which has been responsible for building and maintaining hundreds of miles of hiking, bicycling and cross-country skiing trails in the area. A native of the Johnstown area, Dr. Mucker has been co-owner of Johnstown Family Vision since 1991. He enjoys mountain biking, cross-country skiing, film appreciation, wine tasting and the conversation and company of good friends and family. He resides in salix with his wife Brenda, a Physical Therapist for the Conemaugh Health System.
